Now that the dust and mania of London Fashion Week have settled, it’s a good time to take a moment to re-cap the catwalk trends and share my highlights from the week. Before we get to the good stuff, I have to say a HUGE thanks to Mercedes-Benz for chauffeuring me around town in style! For a busy buyer like me, it was an absolute godsend to have such a luxury. So here we go…
Mulberry – Set to a magical Fantastic Mr. Fox inspired wonderland, Mulberry, made our little British hearts beat. Always one of the standout shows, it’s a VERY special day for Gladys & Pixie, who wore their gifted Mulberry tees on the front row. Let’s hope Kirstin Dunst didn’t notice Pixie’s diva fit when her model replacement, a rather smug looking Fox Terrier, took to the catwalk.
Acne - A super-exclusive crowd crammed into an empty warehouse space off Leicester Square to see a collection oozing with buttery smooth oversized leather pieces in oxblood red and dusky pinks juxtaposed with sheer trousers and sculptural wooden heels.
Christopher Kane – Mixing granny-chic with plastic fantastic, inner- body liquid gel, homage to a childhood pencil case, Christopher drew in the fashion elite. I suspect Azir, our driver courtesy of Mercedes, had seen it all before. He didn’t bat an eyelid as the car filled up with an assortment of fashion editor’s, DJ’s and buyers – nor did he frown upon our pit stops at Shoreditch House to fulfil certain carnivorous cravings.
Meadham Kirchoff – By day 5, we were feeling a little jaded, having hardly had time to digest the 46+ shows and presentations, not to mention the wild Wang/LOVE party the night before. Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff injected the life back into our eyes. A near-perfect realisation of a creative vision, they had their models march en masse to the centre of the runway before peeling off the catwalk in a figure of eight, only to march back on, double time, and then off again. In five minutes flat. To the tune of Hitchcock’s Psycho. Perfection, indeed.
Now, it’s off to Paris with the Start buying team to sift through the hottest AW11 collections, editing out the crème de la crème for next season!
